A Touch of Gold

Last Friday my work held its annual dinner and the theme was 'A touch of gold'.  I was going to wear a gold and black 1960's brocade dress but when I saw this 1940's blue lace dress I couldn't resist.

Then it was just a matter of finding some gold accessories to match the dress and theme. I had this great goldtone 1960's charm bracelet that I hadn't worn due to it sounding like jingle bells but love.  I then found a gold headpiece at a high street shop that was perfect and very cheap which then tied into the ring I chose which has a leaf motif.

My current obsession with hoop earrings was an obvious choice and then....false eyelashes (I hadn't worn falsies since my University days) and some gold pigment for eye shadow.  Now I don't wear too much makeup normally so I was freaking out my daughter, or maybe freaking isn't the word, more like amusing her.

Standby for the glamour shot, channeling Phryne Fisher.

I was enjoying my night too much to remember to take any photos so the only one that was taken was on the dance floor (yes I did get up to have a dance, after copious glasses of champagne I am game for most things)

Oh and I did wear my fake fur jacket that I have been dying to wear woohoo! I love it.

And then home in a taxi, yes this is a taxi not a police car as it might seem - I didn't drink THAT much to become a delinquent, just enough to have a good time and arrive home after midnight! Gasp!

I love dressing up and never get the chance, someone invite me to a fancy party please so I can plan my next outfit x

Copycat - Oh Vanessa! in Blow Up

One of my favourite films is Blow Up, 1966 film directed by Michelangelo Antonioni and I realised that the first post I put up on this blog (back in November 2010) was my little homage to one of the main characters in the film, Jane played by Vanessa Regrave.

I first saw this film when I was in my first year of University and thought she was the most attractive, stylish woman EVER!

If you haven't seen this film, the story is based around a fashion photographer played by David (gaaa! he is so handsome in this) Hemmings who stumbles onto a mysterious meeting and finds he has captured more than just the beauty of Jane.

It has style, fashion, Jane Birkin and Veruschka! Mystery and style, did I say style? yes I did well it has bucket loads and I need to see it again!

Copycat - thumb in mouth

This week I'm taking a risk copying Miss 'icon of the 60s' Twiggy but I thought it would be a simple pose for a Sunday afternoon with no messing around with too many props. ha ha ha yes well again I was wrong.

Shoulders BACK! Thumb IN! No OUT! No chin out! Aaarrrrr!!!! Now where is the light supposed to be coming from? Get the torch! Amelie hold the torch and shine it directly at mum's face......wHAT??!

I like this one a lot, I even managed to add text in 'paint' woohoo, I knew that free program would come in handy.

Out take of the week was my ode to avant garde performance art - I call this one 'get that torch out of my eyes please'

Did I get this one right? Let me know what you think, Claire x

Copycat - Girl on a bike with a cute puppy

Today's Copycat pose was inspired by Bess Georgette, Teresa had posted a picture on Twitter from one of her Pinterest boards of a girl on a bike and I thought - YES! Girl on a bike can be my next Copycat pose!

Upon on further enjoyment of her boards I found a girl on a bike, and she had a cute puppy - yes! A cute puppy! But I don't have a cute puppy. But wait! Little Miss A has a cute puppy toy, I can use it to substitute.

But the pout I could just not replicate - it's contortion of the lips! And my mouth isn't that big or full.

This was actually the first attempt, we tried many times to get the mouth right but I looked kinda scary and witchy-like.

I hope you like this one and I think I have redeemed myself somewhat from last weeks cellophane debacle.

Copycat - cellophane failure

I'm afraid to say this copycat photo was a failure.  I tried to make a collar out of blue cellophane but it just didn't work out, to be honest I looked ridiculous and frankly it was hilarious, Mr Ed and I couldn't stop laughing.

It's a shame really as the glasses I made for the headband were kinda cool.

Mr Ed tried to cheer me up by saying 'Who would wear a raincoat like that anyway?'
Hands in the air ME!!!!

Late addition: OK so after Jess from Miss Fairchild's Charm School asked me to put the photo up, I thought about it and well, I think we all need a chuckle.

At least you can't say I take myself seriously.

Copycat - scarf pose

Another Copycat pose for the weekend, I chose this photo because my hair style is similar - mine is real, I have a feeling hers is a wig - watcha think?

Now I don't have a fat neck but this girls neck is as skinny as her arm!

Don't get me started on how bendy her finger is. It was a hard slog to get the fingers in the right position, the hand origami worked out in the end.

Getting my raffia on! - the beginning

I have somehow started a collection, it is just the beginning: raffia and beaded bags from the 1960's.

It started with this red, wooden beaded clutch I bought from Alfie's Market in London about 7 years ago, I needed a bag for my brothers wedding - friends said it reminded them of a taxi drivers beaded car seat, but I like to think of it as my Jaffa bag (you know those Australian sweets - chocolate on the inside and red/orange crunchy shell on the outside)

Then I happened across this large brown raffia bag earlier this year (I love a large bag as I usually have my glasses case, sunglasses, fan (yes I get hot easily) and all manner of 'stuff' to lug around).

Then I found this little cutie on Mothers Day on a day trip to Rosebud.  She is small but so perfectly formed.

And last week when I was in Sydney I visited the Sydney Antique Centre and my heart skipped a beat - she was the right size, in perfect condition and a wonderful colour - she is my favourite.

Most are made in Japan, well the ones with a label and I know this style of bag was also made in Italy.  I think they are fantastic, such clean lines, great texture and materials and an item that isn't THAT expensive.
